Research Assistant

Hi, my name is Julia Young, and I started working at DBI in 2023. I am a research assistant on the Supported Decision Making in Health Project.

I have a learning disability called PDD-NOS, and I use my soft toy friends to communicate when I'm feeling shy, or anxious, or if I want to.

Outside of work, I do art and music at Studio 2, and I have my own radio show on Otago Access Radio, which I quite enjoy doing. I also enjoy going to Friend Link, and I'm the president of People First Dunedin.

Here are some photos of me and my Party Crew.

A selfie of Julia and her soft toy friend Jojo the lemur. Julia is holding a workbook but the title is unclear. She's smiling and giving the thumbs up.
Julia is in the radio station, in front of the mixing desk, doing her radio show on OARFM. She is holding 4 of her soft toy lemur friends and is grinning.
Julia is giving her speech running for President of People First Dunedin. She is holding her notes and a microphone and is looking determined.
