Biography for Paul Milner
Although born in England, Paul grew up on the Otago Peninsula. Educated at Bayfield High School, he went on to complete a Bachelor & PGDip of Arts at Otago University, majoring in Geography. After a short tenure as Teaching Fellow, he has spent the past ten years working alongside people with intellectual disabilities, and men and women recovering their mental health.
Paul began work in the disability area by supporting men as they began their lives in the community following deinstitutionalization from Cherry Farm Hospital. More recently he set up and managed the Supported Independent Living Service for the PACT Group in Dunedin.
Paul's areas of research interest include deinstitutionalisation for people with disabilities, quality of life issues and community participation.
